Click on the link below to see what grade you can get from the game of Deal or No Deal (there are supportive revision notes for the topics as well if you get questions wrong. Play the game a couple of times until you get the best grade.

As your last posting (on the comments). We have looked at how Christians and Muslims have passages within their sciptures directing them to be "good parents." This often means bringing children up in the faith, teaching children right from wrong and being firm but fair.

What are the top 3 qualities you think are important in good parenting? (The clip below may inspire you).

Euthanasia (Click on this heading for BBC revision notes)

Euthanasia Right or Wrong?

Should the laws in the UK change to allow people to help those who are suffering and want to die? At the moment it is illegal but some believe that the law should change.

Your task using the success criteria sheet given is to make a presentation that could be given to our local MP to inform on the euthanasia debate before voting in parliament.

Click here to read or watch the video of Diane Pretty - a terminally ill woman who wanted help to die. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/1957396.stm)

Others believe that it is never OK to help someone to die. For a summary of Christian views click below:

Life After Death (click here for more info')

So, we have looked at beliefs about life after death and peoples' experiences of the PARANORMAL that some claim support the idea that there is life after death. You have also done a thinking hats exercise considering different views on these.

The task is...what do you think? What do you believe happens when we die? Explain why. If you've heard of an experience like the ones we've discussed describe it.

Remeber to choose "other" when submitting your entry and use your code word rather than your real name.

Christian and Muslim Beliefs About Life After Death Homework

Homework:

“Belief in an afterlife makes no difference to how you live your life.”

a) Do you agree? Give reasons for your answer (3)

b) Give reasons why some people might disagree with you. (3)

This question is asking what YOU think but you must back up what you say with reasons and explain them as fully as possible. If you click on the title there are some revision notes that may help you on Christian and Muslim beliefs.

Here are some thoughts that may help, you will have to decide if they arguments for or against.:

  • Lots of people say they are Christians or Muslims but behave no better or worse than anyone else.
  • Many Christians and Muslims believe they will be punished when they die if they do bad things.
  • Many Christians and Muslims believe they will be rewarded in heaven if they do good things and follow their religion's teachings.
  • Some people believe they will become ghosts or spirits no matter how you behave in this life.
The video below was made by RS students - I don't like all of the images but it is a good summary of this unit.

Christianity and Islam

The next 4 topics you will study as part of your RS course will ask you about Christian and Muslim views on a number of topics that affect people. If we are to be successful in this we need to have some understanding of the two religions.

REMEMBER - I am not asking you to believe a religion, rather to understand how religious beliefs can affect how people act and what they think is right and wrong.

To find out the basic facts on Christianity for your homework click on the link below:
http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/fastfacts.htm

To find out the basic facts on Islam click on the link below:

http://www.religionfacts.com/islam/fastfacts.htm

Lost your sheet? You need to find out:

  • Size of the religion (approximate number of followers)

  • Sacred text(s)

  • House (place of worship) of worship

  • A symbol
  • Important people (those central to the beliefs of the religion)
This work is to be brought to the next lesson to be stuck into your book!
